Arrival at Helmsley - the start point
I got the train up from Kings Cross to York and met Inma, my friend for lunch at Wetherspoons. I left my bags in her office at Network Rail. Unfortunately the 50 stops bus to Helmsley we aimed for at 16.13 turned out to only run in school holidays, so I’ve missed the last transport out of York. You forget you’re up north where there are only 2 busses a day and shops shut at 4.30!! Inma agreed to cycle home and collect her car and pick me up from her offices and drive me to Helmsley - as long as I pay for the petrol! We arrive at the B&B at 6.30 and the village is stunning. It has a beautiful market square and a ruined castle. The proprietor saw my KE Adventure bag and asked if I used them. I said all the time and mentioned Killi and Toubkal. It turns out his wife designed the Toubkal trek for KE! Small world. I booked a table at The Feathers Hotel and said goodbye to Inma. No backing out now!
